After loads of sanding and filling seams on the lower half of the NSD Dalek now named George, it has been primed and painted. Also a little test of the blue under lighting.

A few months before I started getting sick in 2009, my wife and I had the chance to meet George Lucas with Patches. The first robot I ever made. George liked the personality of my droid and it even accidentally blinded him with his holo projector light because the bucket of bolts was so excited to meet his maker.
This also marks the last time we ever left Nebraska even 10 year later. Making the leg supports for the R2 out of steel as the center leg will be taking most of the beating when moving over terrain. Once mounted the bolts were ground down to the T-nuts.
Frame glued together and resin parts added for show. Start of the axles that will be going through the body and connecting the legs together. Middle metal bar connects the legs together at the right spacing and tilt.
Frame done and dry fitted together. Now to assemble it for real. I also did a little chiseling on my r2's armpit area. It is amazing how big these parts look when they are not all put together. Even the Holo eyes dwarf my Star Wars Miniatures Rancor!
January 22nd 2008 was the day I created the original work blog. That was 10 years ago! Here are some R2 leg building pictures from that day long ago and far, far away. The legs are entirely made out of wood with resin details added.
A young Moose getting to see a few then famous robots in person that he reads so much about.
Who knew years later he would start building his own. |
