About:
Hi I'm Moose, and welcome to Moose's Workshop. I would like to thank you for tuning in and seeing what the shop is all about. 12+ years ago I started going deaf and decided I wanted to do all I can creatively before I lost all my hearing. I started building "bucket list" items I have always wanted to build. My first project was a full sized R2 Droid. With limited skills and tools I started learning and building the frame and legs out of wood. Before it was even finished I was already taking it to charity events and fundraisers. After the first R2 was mostly finished, my wife wanted to build one as well so she could join in the events, so we build another one together. After building a few other different robots I decided to take my improved skills and give it a try at making a few props and sets for the robots to pose with. Other than the TARDIS Console Room, the sets are all mostly made out of recycled material. As my hearing was getting worse and started to get ringing on top of that, doing charities started to get hard as I could not hear anyone unless they yelled. So next my wife and I decided to build a ride-a-top train set which we are currently working on now for just us. Except for the aluminum rail it is made out of about 90% recycled materials.
My hobby has helped greatly with my ability to cope with all my ear problems. When I am working on a project my concentration on that overrides everything else. Sure, I have to be more diligent with power tools and equipment more than others, but I get by. You may also see me still wearing hearing protection for the tinnitus (ear ringing) which is aggravated my high pitched sounds.
But enough about me, let me tell you about the workshop. It is just a simple detached one car garage, 2x4 construction, with a few 110 outlets and lights. There is no heat or air conditioning so I am at the mercy of the weather. I am constantly reorganizing and trying to find ways to maximize its potential. There is no computer controlled equipment. Everything is made by hand or power tools with my love of rulers and laying everything out by hand. My hope is to one day get the workshop insulated and heated so I can work during the winter months. The workshop focus is mostly woodworking, but it also features welding, home and auto repair, and other handyman projects just to change it up once in a while. I hope you like what you see as you join me on this adventure and see the progress of not only the projects themselves but my skills as well. Any constructive feedback is always appreciated as I am always learning.
Thank you and have a great day!
