Here is a simple and cheap project to dress up your railroad; a metal whistle sign. Using some scrap metal shelving I cut out the sign's rectangular shape then rounded the corner. Stripping the old paint off with a grinder and sander I then painted it white and added the W. To make the vinyl W last longer I clear coated the sign faces.
Over the last 12 years we have been part or done 100s of charity events and a ton of volunteer work. From raising money for Make a Wish to Wounded Warrior, spending time with special needs kids, doing community events, and all on our own dime.
To see the smiles or new found hope in someone's eyes makes it all worthwhile.

Things are starting to look up though as we get ready for next year!
Was having problems with this gondola derailing due to the tightness of the turn so I lightened up the frame in the areas it was making contact.
